6th Grade Disclosure Document 2015-2016
Website and Announcements
In order to keep you informed of the assignments and events we have planned, we have created a 6th grade website. We encourage you to take advantage of this great resource. It can be accessed at http://meadow6th.weebly.com.
Skyward
We will use the information on Skyward to contact you and send out progress reports. Please make sure your information is up to date. The best way to keep track of your child’s progress is by checking Skyward often. We strongly encourage you to make use of this valuable tool.
Remind
Remind is a one-way text messaging and email system. With Remind, all personal information remains completely confidential. The sixth grade teachers will use this to inform you of important announcements and reminders. Teachers will never see your phone number, nor will you ever see theirs. To sign up, text this message @meadow6 to this number 81010. Using the same number, you may also sign up for homeroom messages using your teacher’s code: @gonsalves6 @hadfield6 @martins6
Class Dojo
We are excited to be implementing the use of a program called Class Dojo to encourage positive behavior. You will be able to log into the program to stay updated with your child’s classroom behavior. You will soon receive login information for this program.
Daily Schedule
The sixth grade will rotate for each of the subjects with the following teachers: Math: Mr. Gonsalves, Science: Mrs. Martins, Social Studies: Mrs. Hadfield, Reading & Language Arts: Homeroom teacher. We will also participate in a rotation of P.E., Computers, and Art. Lunchtime will be from 11:50-12:25.
Homework
Students are expected to complete the following homework:
•30 minutes of nightly reading. Students are expected to use this time to read a minimum of 3 books for each trimester and prepare a report for each book. Please refer to our website for further details.
•20 minutes of daily IXL practice (paper homework available if needed) and weekly assignments from mathbook.
•Study weekly Spelling/Vocabulary list. Spelling/Vocabulary tests will be given at the beginning of each week.
•Any assignment not completed in class.
•All homework must be complete before it will be accepted. This should include a parent signature.
Grading Policy and Assignments
Students will be graded on a list of skills that are part of the Utah State Core Curriculum. Grades will be reported as a mastery level of skills from the curriculum. Students are required to make up missed work when absent. All work that is not completed will require use of students’ free time at home or school to finish.
•Assignments that are turned in up to 7 days late will receive a 10% point deduction. After that the assignment will only be accepted for half credit up to a designated date. Again, please check Skyward often to stay updated on your child’s assignments.
Attendance
All students are expected to arrive on time and be present each day. Students arriving late must check in through the office. Each day a student is absent, parents must inform the teacher of the reason for the absence. Each day of learning is vital to your child’s education. After 5 unexcused absences, the school will notify you.
Reward Activities
We will have a special monthly activity to reward those students that have completed all homework, book reports, and accumulated a designated amount of individual Dojo points for the previous month.
Recess
Students are expected to spend recess outside unless they bring a note from home. It is not possible for teachers to be in the classroom during all recesses to provide supervision. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for weather conditions each day.
Electronic Devices
Electronic devices like cell phones, mp3 players, and video games must be turned off and kept in backpacks while at school. Students bring these items to school at their own risk. These items will be confiscated if found in the possession of the student at any time during the day, including recess.
Collaboration Days
8:00 students will be dismissed at 1:15 on Mondays and 9:15 students will dismiss at 2:30. This is 1 hour earlier than the regular dismissal time. Please understand that this is an important time for teachers to plan for the needs of students. Teachers will not be available during this time for phone calls or meetings with parents.
Fees and Donations
We are asking for a $25 donation to cover our field trips and activities for the year. Please make checks payable to Meadow Elementary. Please submit donations as soon as possible.
